Nursing Home Negligence

Nursing home negligence and elder abuse is an important concern in the state of Texas. Currently, there are more than 36 million people over the age of 65 in the U.S., transitioning from middle age to older adulthood; that number is expected to swell to 86.7 million by the year 2050. Naturally, many of these older adults will, at some point, require a form of nursing home or assisted living care.

While most facilities try to provide good care and a safe environment for loved ones, senior citizens residing in assisted living facilities (ALFs) and nursing homes can too often find themselves vulnerable to numerous forms of harm due to poor medical treatment or the neglect and abuse of undertrained or uncaring staff. These problems are made worse by the fact that these older adults are often not able to fully communicate their needs to family or friends. It is generally believed that nursing home negligence and elderly abuse is under-reported.

General neglect is the most common manner of abuse, but older adults are also at risk for mismanaged health care, as well as, physical, mental and emotional abuse. The consequences of malpractice, neglect and abuse are potentially devastating, commonly resulting in dehydration, malnutrition, and sometimes even death.

If you believe that you or a loved one is the victim of nursing home negligence or elder abuse, The Reilley Law Firm can help.
